Chris and Kevin will discuss the evolution of Android design, Tumblr’s design battles (with numbers to back up the company’s claims of success), and give a call to action on the importance of building beautiful software in the era of Material Design.
Chris has been writing mobile software in various forms since 2003. He was involved in several large-scale Brew projects, from MMS messaging to Major League Baseball. More recently, he was an early Android engineer behind the doubleTwist media player and is now the Director of Mobile at Tumblr. He’s recently published "Beginning Android Programming: Develop and Design" with Kevin Grant on Peach Pit Press and lives in Manhattan, where he constantly debates shaving his beard.
Kevin Grant is an Android Engineer at tumblr, a creative blogging platform in New York City, where he focuses on application design, implementing the latest design and user interaction paradigms and pushing the boundaries of the Android framework.
He began developing for Android in 2009, performing research at the University of Nevada, Reno. After graduating he moved to Malmö, Sweden where he took part in the Scandinavian startup scene.
